Hansen Elementary School Students Jump into Fundraising for New Playground
The Hansen CAPT (Canton Association for Parents and Teachers) is an organization run by the parents and teachers of the Hansen School. The purpose is to provide financial support to the Hansen School community to enhance the children's educations. In addition to bringing in enrichment programs for grades K-5, the CAPT strives to assist the school's faculty in securing materials and experiences for our children above and beyond those typically encountered in school.
At the May CAPT meeting, the Hansen CAPT voted to fund an upgraded playground for the Hansen School in the amount of $22,000. The funds are needed to make improvements to the existing playground structure at the Hansen playground, which is currently utilized by over 500 students.
Improvements include new and expanded swing sets and
replacement of two structures that data has shown to be unsafe for the children. New, safer structures will be constructed and this entire project will occur this summer and be ready for use on the first day of school in September 2012.
In addition, the Hansen Elementary is also planning a "Phase II" playground fundraiser for the new school year (2012-2013). Due to the growth of the Hansen Elementary School, the current play structure is over-utilized and Principal Boucher has identified the need for a second playground to be constructed, which will be used by the younger students in grades Kindergarten-Grade 3. The cost of this new playground is approximately $58,000 and the Hansen has already started receiving donations for this project. The Hansen will officially kick off a fundraising effort in order to raise the necessary funds to construct this new playground. The Hansen will be looking to the community for contributions to this effort and site plans were recently showcased at the Hansen Family Picnic in May.
The Hansen Elementary students are also helping raise money for these projects by obtaining sponsorship for a Jumping Jack fundraiser to take place during gym class during the week of June 11, 2012. Parents and friends can sponsor per jumping back or make a general donation to the cause. All students will be given the opportunity to participate and will do jumping jacks for 5 minutes to see how many jumping jacks each student can do in 5 minutes and ultimately help raise money for these playground projects. The students and staff are very excited to see the students get involved in this fundraising effort.
