ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Josh Edwards - Junior

NAME OF TEAM: Blue Hills Hockey Team

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: “In all of my years of coaching, Josh is one of the hardest working players I’ve ever seen. He has a work ethic second to none, and never stops battling in practice or during a game. He is a captain as a junior which shows the respect he has from his teammates. Even with all of his success he always wants to learn more and has a great attitude, is very coachable and a leader.” -Steve Woods, Blue Hills Hockey Team Head Coach

WHY IS HE THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK? The Blue Hills Hockey Team has been coached by Steve Woods for 14 years and is about to clinch its 14th consecutive Mayflower (Large) League title, led by Josh Edwards. For the past three years, Josh, a 6’0”, 155 pound center, has amassed 147 points and is only half way through his junior year. This season, Josh has 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points in only 13 games. The team has qualified for 14 consecutive Division-3 State Tournaments and has won at least one post-season game each year. Josh has a five-goal game and an eight-point game to his credit.

FAVORITE CAREER ATHLETIC MOMENT: Scoring his first hat trick, early in his freshman season. He plays hockey all-year round.

FUTURE GOALS: Josh wants to continue his hockey career, after Blue Hills, at the junior, college and pro levels.

COLLEGE CHOICE: Undecided, but Josh is an Honor roll student.

OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL: He is enrolled in Auto Body classes at Blue Hills. He also enjoys dirt bike riding and working for his grandfather at T L Edwards (Road Construction.) Josh also enjoys spending time with his family (mother, father, older sister, older brother and younger brother.) All Josh’s siblings attended Blue Hills, and younger brother Nic is a sophomore. He is a right wing on Josh’s line and is also an outstanding player, second on the team in scoring with 12 goals and 35 points.

JOSH’S WORDS: “I want to thank my coaches, parents, friends, teachers and Blue Hills for all their support. Coach Woods and assistant coaches Rick Delvecchio and Richard Buckley prepare us very well. I want to be known for my hard work and how much I care about the game. I know that I need to keep getting better and better and I’m willing to work hard to become the best player that I can be.”

FINAL THOUGHTS: By the time Josh’s scholastic career comes to an end, he will be among the top overall scorers in the state (over 200 points) and definitely a player to watch as he continues his path to hockey stardom.
