Five Ways to Beat the Heat in Canton

A few tips on keeping your cool this week.

Ready for the humid, 90-degree weather Canton? It will definitely start to feel like summer, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast is calling for a high of 89 degrees today and a 95 degrees Thursday. And make sure you have an umbrella handy. Thursday's heat is likely to bring thunderstorms, according to the NWS.

A few tips to keep your cool this week:

1. Finally install your AC! Or pick up a new fan or air conditioner before the summer rush. Check out Ace Hardware, CVS or Rite Aid in Canton.

2. Cool off with a swim. No backyard pool? Head to Houghton's Pond in Milton or Wollaston Beach in Quincy. Or bring the kids to the YMCA's outdoor pool in Stoughton–complete with kiddie pool and lounge chairs.

3. Load up the family and venture out for the ultimate hot weather snack–ice-cream! With so many ice-cream shops to choose from, you can spread out your tastings over the summer. Start with Hilliard's in Cobbs Corner or Crescent Ridge in Sharon for a refreshing hot-weather treat.

4. Need to get out of your hot, sticky house or apartment? Go to the Canton Public Library for some indoor cooling time, and watch a movie, read a magazine or use the computers. Plus, it's free with your library card!

5. For the 21-plus crowd, cool down with your favorite summer cocktail. With the plethora of bars, restaurants and pubs in town, you have your pick. Check out your local watering hole and enjoy an ice cold Corona or margarita on the patio or in the comfort of the AC. Ahhh.
