Hazmat Team Called in for Ammonia Leak at Pecunit Street Water Treatment Plant
No injuries have been reported.
A hazmat team has been called in for a tier 2 situation at the Pecunit Street Water Treatment Plant in Canton.
According to Canton Firefighter Brian Leary, there is an ammonia leak from a tank within the treatment plant at 19 Pecunit Street. Leary said he is unsure if it is a 25 or 100 gallon tank.
"They have it isolated to a small room in the area,” Leary said.
Leary said the situation should have no effect on Galvin Middle School, which is one tenth of a mile away from the plant. The school started on a two hour delay today because of the storm.
It is unknown at this time if the situation will effect the water at the plant.
There were no injuries reported and the call came in at 10:53 a.m.
