Proposal Calls for Nearly 350 New Housing Units in Canton
The plan proposes 64 town house units, 80 age-restricted units, and 204 apartments, according to recent reports.
A consultant's report regarding a newly-proposed housing development for 348 units in downtown Canton is expected to be completed by the end of February, according to media reports.
The Canton Board of Selectmen will neither decline or oppose the proposal until they review the report, according to Boston.com.
Details in the proposal include 64 town house units, 80 age-restricted units for residents aged 55 and older, and 204 apartments, according to Boston.com.
Currently, the site comprises buildings with asbestos; to clean up the property would cost about $5 million, according to the Boston.com report.
In other development news, Canton-based Whitman Homes is among the entities that have expressed interest in building houses at Winterwoods, a newly-proposed development of 115 cottages and townhouses in Weymouth slated to be completed by 2014, according to Boston.com.

Why are townhouses proposed for seniors. One level housing would make more sense for people 65-older. Also hopefully it is not on Plymouth site but then again this town of great school systems seems not to care too much about those that have lived here for generations like taking bids for a new senior center rather than a basement area. Too sad. After visiting other centers, it is above my intelligence why this is even a question.

To clarify, yes, this is being proposed for the Plymouth Rubber property on Revere Street, according to the Boston.com post.

AND this is not including the parking lot of Plymouth Rubber - were they want to build an asisted living facility. They are trying to seperate it out so project looks smaller. This is 348 units - a mix of apartments and townhouses. The project that was rejected at town meeting in 2008 was what 395. However what killed it was - what they were going to give to town. In that case - it was not enough. They need be pretty generous as we are talking a lot of new families / people in town. There are other big projects - live Avalon already in play (being built). They better take care of the Paul Revere barn too.
