Storm Keeps Canton Fire Busy
The department is responding to extra calls, downed power lines all over town.
The heavy snow is causing quite the commotion in Canton today. Downed power lines and tree branches are the main issues the Canton Fire Department has been responding to throughout the day.
"Things are crazy right now," Canton Fire Chief Charles Doody said today. The department, which has extra staff on today, has outfitted the engines and trucks with heavy duty chains in order to pass through thte snowy streets.
Since 5:30 a.m., the department has responded to several reports of downed wires, a gas leak and even a trapped cat that was then freed by Canton firefighters.
There were calls for downed wires on Dan Road, Sherman Avenue, Meadows Avenue, Mechanic Street, Shepherd's Way, Diana Drive and Pleasant Circle.
The CFD also responded to a gas call where a tree limb snapped a gas meter off the side of a building. The building was evactuated while the meter was repaired and gas levels were deemed acceptable by the fire department.
Canton firefighters also rescued a trapped cat this morning. According to the fire report, the cat was trapped between a steam radiator and the wall of a building. Firefighters removed the cat, who suffered a minor cut to its paw.
