Canton Dolphin Summer Season Underway

If you drive down Bolivar Street during your weekday commute, you might notice the activity at the Bolivar Street pool in mornings.  The Canton Dolphins swim team is in the midst of its summer season.

Older swimmers practice daily from 8 am - 9 am while younger swimmers practice from 9 am - 10 am.  Those brave swimmers who are going to be participating in the Mile Swim later this month have an additional practice starting at 7:30 am.

As of this writing, the team has two wins against Medfield and Westwood and two losses against Newton and Framingham, with the next meet against Dedham to be held on July 19th at Dedham, which looks to be a close meet.

The Dolphins swim team is a program run by the Canton Recreation Department and is coached by longtime Canton resident Sandy Hart.  Canton kids ages 5-18 participate in this team, learning not only proper swim technique but also learn about hard work, teamwork and sportsmanship.

The team is part of the South Suburban Swim League, made up of Canton, Newton, Frammingham, Medfiled, Westwood, Dedham, Millis, Needham, Norwood, Natick, Sherborn and Walpole.  The season runs from late June through early August, with meets held Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the season. The season culminates in Regional swim meets in which all towns compete for the league championship.

Home meets are held at the Bolivar Street pool starting at 6:00 pm.  The remaining home meets are:

July 24 against Millis

July 26 against Needham

August 2 against Natick

August 7 against Sherborn

August 9 against Walpole

Come on down and cheer them on!

Stay tuned for an update on the season and championship meet results.
