Canton Junction a Product of Serious Teamwork

Owner Joseph Muresco shares his side of the story on Canton Junction.

Joseph Muresco, owner of the Canton Junction Sports Bar started in the restaurant business about 15 years ago, but really started in the culinary arts while working at the Northbridge High School. “I created a program with another teacher there, Al Richards, for kids with high truancy,” he said. “You know they were cutting class all the time. I originally signed on as a full-time substitute. Richards and I put together a program called "Pathway to Academic and Vocational Excellence.”' Muresco said he had been taking classes to learn to cook at the time, and tried a program to give kids who didn’t really take to the academic side of learning and gave them hands on training. “We taught the kids who didn’t like coming to school,” he said. Connors Wayside Furniture Still going Strong after 130 Years

Current owner Jerry Connors share his side of the store's history.

Jerry Connors inherited his business, Connors Wayside Furniture, from his father in 1996, but it was going strong for more 100 years before that. “My grandfather started it somewhere in the 1880s,” Connors said. “Back then, they had a store in Stoughton Center and Canton Center.” Connors said his father moved the store to its current location, and the store itself was fairly small. It had been a general store before his father bought it in 1941 and it was only 900 square feet at the time. “We had three major additions over the years,” Connors said. "We also tore down a couple of buildings as well.” Connors said he first got started in the business very young, helping out when he was in middle school. “I first started when I was in junior …

Foreclosures in Canton and the State Down in April

Canton has seen a drop in foreclosures across the board in April 2013, according to the Warren Group.

Canton has seen a drop in foreclosures across the board in April 2013. The data, provided by the Warren Group, stated Canton’s foreclosure petitions (which represent newly started foreclosures) dropped from three in April 2012 to zero last month. Foreclosure deeds, or completed foreclosures, dropped from one to zero over the same time period. Canton’s cumulative petitions dropped from nine at this time in 2012 to two in 2013. Foreclosures across the state are also dropping. The number of foreclosure petitions statewide dropped almost 79 percent year-over-year to 370 from 1,750 in April 2012. This is up from March, when 284 petitions were filed statewide, but well below levels in months past that came in around 1,000 or higher. Through …
