JFK Continues Author-in-Residence ProgramThe Author-in-Residence program, sponsored by CAPT, is continuing its successful run at the JFK School. Barbara O'Connor, the first such author, presents an annual biography workshop for all fifth grade students. This program lasts for five days, spread over a two-week span. BHR Student Builds Darth Vader ReplicaBlue Hills Regional Technical School junior Eric Manning of Canton has built a nearly life-size model of Star Wars villain Darth Vader. Made out of plastic tubing, wood and aluminum parts, the robot can move its one arm and speak when controlled by a computer. Manning, who began the project during his freshman year, plans to make the robot completely autonomous and computer-controlled. “Once Upon a Mattress” at CHS This WeekendCanton Drama presents the musical “Once Upon a Mattress” at the Canton High School Auditorium this Friday and Saturday. "Race to Nowhere" Screening Tuesday Tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m., Canton Public Schools will be showing the documentary film, Race to Nowhere. CHS Fire Alarm Malfunction, RepairCanton High School held its first fire drill of the year on Friday. During the drill, several problems with the fire alarm developed, and students and staff were directed to leave the building immediately upon the close of school. The home football game was allowed to proceed (Canton beat Weston 35-14) but the band did not perform as planned. The fire alarm system was repaired and tested late Friday night, and the building was again open for regular use. Teachers, faculty and staff at the Luce Elementary said goodbye to their fifth-graders on Thursday, June 23. "I'm sad to see the kids go," Principal Robie Peter said. "We talk about it as a move up day, a step forward on what is a very long journey." Peter, a former preschool teacher, had these words of wisdom from Winnie-the-Pooh to share with the newly-minted sixth-graders: "Footprints tell you where you've been, but not where you're going. MHS Students Honored at MIT Three Massachusetts Hospital School students were honored at a special ceremony of The Cambridge Science Festival presented by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Sunday, May 1.  The Curiosity Challenge is a science contest that invites students to explore their curiosity and to be creative.
