Orange Leaf held its grand opening tonight at their new Village Shoppes location in Cobbs Corner. People from Canton, Sharon, Stoughton and surrounding towns all came for their complimentary yogurt which included all the add ons from fresh fruit, gummy bears, m & m's, nuts, chocolate covered pretzels, jr. mints and so many other choices. It's been one year to the day that Tropical Storm Irene, which initially threatened the east coast as a hurricane, walloped the northeast, including Canton.  Many Canton residents could bee seen cleaning up the day after the storm, which brought heavy winds and rain, causing downed trees across town, as well as power outages, home damage and street closures. Today, we're wondering what Canton residents remember about the storm. Were you affected by Irene? Or did you think it was just another typical tropical storm for Massachusetts?
On Friday, Aug. 10, the Massachusetts Hospital School's celebrated it's 29th Annual Summer Day Program. The Annual Family Day allows guests to meet with counselors, nurses and specialists and see what the children have experienced during their last seven weeks of camp, including events such as horseback riding and arts and crafts.  "This school helped me how to become independent," John Mariani, a graduate of the Mass Hospital School said. "Now I have my own apartment and live on my own. Students celebrated earlier this month at the annual JFK Winter Fling. The event raised funds for the school's educational supplies and activities for students. Held at the JFK on February 11, the event featured games, food, raffles, prizes, kid-friendly activities and the traditional cake walk. Shops and businesses from around Canton came out to display their goodies. A good time had by all!
The Canton Council on Aging certainly keeps the seniors busy. From yoga, to painting, to knitting, the Senior Center offers a little something for everyone.
Children enjoyed two performances put on by Margaret Moody and the Galapagos Puppet Theater at the Learning Circle Preschool on Saturday, January 28.
Carolers, a Jazz duo, sales and Santa were all part of the fun at the 1st Annual Village Shoppes Holiday Stroll. With many stores offering free samples, special promotions and even raffles customers were lured inside out of the cold. For a special treat, Santa even stopped by the Halfway Cafe to dine and visit with the kids.
Congrats to the boys in blue! The Blue Hills Regional Technical School's football team captured the win on Saturday, December 3, against Cathedral High School. The Division 4A Super Bowl Champions played a tight game against Cathedral at Bentley University. The final score was 16-14. The Super Bowl game was dedicated to two former students, Mike Borreli and Nick Tempone, who passed away. Blue Hills is honoring the football players at a banquet on Thursday evening. Do not mess with the Lady Bulldogs. These girls were tough in the annual pre-Thanksgiving football matchup against their Stoughton rivals. The Canton senior girls beat the Stoughton senior girls in a tight Powder Puff game, 28-24. The day-before-Thanksgiving matchup took place at Stoughton High. The Canton High School Drama department has been hard at work, rehearsing for their weekend debut of "Once Upon a Mattress." The performance is the musical spin on the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Princess and The Pea.  Support the local actors and attend the weekend shows on Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Canton High School's Morse Auditorium. Tickets are available at the door; $12 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens.
The Canton High School Field Hockey team managed to defeat Dover-Sherborn Tuesday night. The girls won the home game in overtime, 2-1, in the South Sectional Semi-Finals. The Canton High Bulldogs will now be heading to Taunton on Saturday for the Sectional Finals. 
Canton High School hosted a "WonderFall" celebration on Saturday, October 1, with plenty of fun, fall activities for kids as well as a craft expo with countless goods for sale. Proceeds for the event will benefit Canton High School's Class of 2012.
For the second year in a row, the Life is Good Festival brought in huge crowds to Prowse Farm in Canton with an array or music performances, entertainment, food, games, and activities for kids this weekend. The two-day festival raises money for the Life is Good Playmakers, a non-profit that trains childcare workers to help children who have experienced some kind of trauma. This year's charity fundraising goal is set at $1 million. The fest wraps up today.
Canton High's girls volleyball team took their first loss of the season, falling to North Attleboro Monday night at a home game. Canton lost set 5, 15-13, according to cantonvolleyball.com. Currently, the lady Bulldogs are 2-0 in the Hockomock Davenport Division league and 3-0 overall.
Car enthusiasts take note. Every Friday night until the end of fall, Trinity Church parking lot becomes a haven for classic and vintage cars from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., weather permitting. Oldies music plays creating a throwback to yesteryear as spectators and owners peruse the cars on the lot. Feel free to bring some BBQ or picnic food for a casual dinner and your classic car too, if you have one.
The Canton High School Booster Club held an alumni flag football game to raise funds for Canton High athletics this weekend. Alumni from the classes of 1970 to 2006 played in the Alumni Flag Football Game and Golf Ball Drop on Saturday, September 10. The event, held at the Canton High School football field from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., raised funds for Canton High School, according to Organizer Kim White. Blue Hills Brewery hosted their 3rd Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton. The event featured live music from several bands, food, family activities, games and plenty of Blue Hills Brewery beer for the 21-plus crowd. 
Canton has some great local spots for ice cream and it is hard to imagine anything better on a hot summer day. iScreamWorks at 598 Washington Street serves up Brigham's ice cream and has "great soft serve," according to patron Walter Humphrey of Canton. Hilliards in The Village Shoppes has more than just chocolate and candy. The back of the store has an ice cream parlor dishing out many delectable flavors with Hilliards own chocolate candy and mix-ins. Nancy Allen says she always comes to Hilliards for her "favorite coffee frappe."  And there is always Crescent Ridge past Cobb's Corner in …
College student Shana Cohen loves making jewelry and her creativity shows when she teaches young students. Cohen taught jewelry making for the Canton Recreation Department's Summer Program. During four, week-long sessions this summer, she inspired young girls to take part in this fun hobby showing them everything from the basics of beading to jewelry that incorporates bows, pearls, flower motifs and recycled objects like guitar picks and legos that she fashioned herself.
When temperatures are on the rise, kids and adults take a break at Canton's Bolivar Pool free swim time. Open Monday through Friday for open swim between 1:00 - 6:00 pm, the town pool is always a popular spot for escaping the heat.
