DESCRIPTION:Green Against Green: The Tragedy of the Irish Civil War\, 192
2-1923\nA lecture by Professor William Matthews \nProf. Matthews returns
to the ICC for the third installment of his popular historical lecture
series.\nIn December of 1921\, the first treaty ever between Ireland and
England was signed by the delegation lead Michael Collins and Arthur Gr
iffith.&nbsp\; The treaty did not grant Ireland&nbsp\; republic status n
or the inclusion of the 6 counties. Instead\, it granted only limited do
minion status and an oath of allegiance to the Crown.&nbsp\; The accepta
nce of the Treaty created an irreconcilable split in the IRA.&nbsp\; Men
such deValera\, Lynch\, and Barry vehemently opposed the Treaty\, while
others lead by Michael Collins viewed the Treaty as the "freedom to ach
ieve freedom". Civil war became inevitable&nbsp\; This is the story of o
ne of the saddest periods in Irish history.\n8:00pm\n$5 for members | $1
