My first post

Hey all! My name is Michelle. I grew up in Canton and graduated from high school in 2008. Since then I have been traveling around the country work trading on different organic farms through a program called "WWOOF" (Willing Workers on Organic Farms).

I am currently living out in Western Mass but I come back to Canton to visit family pretty regularly. I definitely gravitate towards more progressive, liberal, alternative areas like the Berkshires and the Pioneer Valley. There is a great sense of community here and a strong demand for local economy, fresh food, and diverse culture. I'm so glad to see towns south of Boston organizing live concerts in cobbs corner, new farmers markets flourishing in Stoughton, Sharon, Dedham and organic farms such Langwater in Easton and brookwood community farm and Pakeen farm in Canton. The power of community is an amazing thing that a lot of people have lost unfortunately. .

On this blog, I will be posting alternative local news, a wide variety of political and artistic expression, interesting articles ,and different opinions on world events aside from massive media conglomerates.
Please check out my facebook page 'Alt living in South of Boston' where local people exchange ideas, hear about community events and grassroots projects, challenge conventional wisdom, foster creativity, teach self-empowerment, and inspire critical thinking about social, political, and cultural issues. The page also provides essential support for radically inclined individuals who believe that it's possible for all of us to hang on to our values and build a life we believe in. The good news is that people all over the world are doing their share to keep journalism alive.
When you 'Like' the page, It means you’ll be supporting an autonomous community of art and resistance in the suburbs south of Boston. I hope to hear some of your thoughts on there!

I'm hoping to reach a much larger audience and manifest my vision of finding a public community space to have:

Live music supporting our local musicians
Organic veggies from our local farms
Art exhibits
Educational Films & video screenings
Poetry & spoken word
Theater & performance art
A lending library with radical & progressive media
Space for meetings & discussion groups
Potlucks
Skill shares
Barter markets
Plant swaps
Workshops
Community art murals
... and more!

Stay tuned. Thanks for reading.

In community,
Michelle
