FIGHTING BREAST CANCER IS A 'BRILLIANT MOVE' FOR THIS BUSINESSMAN

BOSTON, MASS.  (Issued January 2014) --  Cancer has touched Jean Brillant (pronounced Bree-ont) personally. His mother, adoptive mother and an aunt all died of breast cancer.

While giving back to the communities he serves has always been high on Jean Brillant’s agenda, now it’s very personal. That’s why he and his company, Brilliant Move, based in Avon, are so deeply involved in working with Susan G. Komen Massachusetts® (Komen MA), the state affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

According to Ronni Cohen-Boyar, Executive Director of Komen MA, who has gotten to know Brillant in the last few years, “Scores of like-minded, caring business people like Jean partner with us to reduce breast cancer in Massachusetts by funding education, screening and treatment programs, with an emphasis on helping those facing barriers to care.”

In 2014, Jean Brillant is helping in several ways and invites others to similarly become involved:

  • He is serving as Logistics Chair for the 6th Annual ‘Chefs for the Cure’ to be held on April 10th at the Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts. The event will give guests the opportunity to sample cuisine from some of Boston’s finest chefs. His moving and delivery business will assist with event setup and special needs

  • He is helping to secure auction items for the event’s live and silent auctions.

  • Brilliant Move will make a donation to Komen MA for each referral booked as a result of this event.

  • He’s promoting breast cancer awareness via company publicity and on his website (www.brilliantmove.net)

  • Brillant says, “I want my staff, customers, family and friends to be proud of our involvement as we take an active role in helping to reduce the impact of breast cancer here in Massachusetts. Given the number of women and men who are diagnosed each year, by supporting Komen MA, we are helping  co-workers, neighbors, friends, and perhaps someone in our own families.” Getting involved is a win-win, he says, referring to a poll that says 92% of Americans think it’s important for companies to make charitable contributions or donate products and/or services to non-profits in the community.

In the past five years, Komen MA has given over $4.5 million to community-based partners for screening, education awareness, and treatment grants in the Commonwealth. For details on making donations and/or coming events, visit www.komenmass.org .
