Sen. Joyce Requests Ban on Skin Shock Devices at Canton's JRC

Sen. Brian Joyce (D-Milton) this week requested the agency ban of painful skin shock devices as part of a testimony submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Joyce, who represents Canton and Sharon , requested the ban of all Graduated Electronic Decelerators (GED) specifically for use at the Judge Rotenberg Center (JRC) in Canton. The FDA is expected to conduct a hearing with JRC representatives concerning the use of GED 3A and 4 devices, which are currently used to administer painful electric shocks to disabled children at the Canton facility without FDA approval.

Students from Sharon High School will take on opponents from Rockport on St. Patrick's Day - Sunday, March 17 - as part of this year's WGBH High School Quiz Show competition.

WGBH released the official 2013 tournament bracket for the competition this week, highlighting the 16 qualifying teams with corresponding broadcast dates.

Boyden Students Make Snowflakes to Support Sandy Hook

For Walpole parent Lisa Fair, the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. hit close to home as she grew up in nearby Seymour Conn. and is friends with parents of young children who attend school in Newtown.

So, when she heard people around the world were sending support in the form of paper snowflakes to Sandy Hook Elementary she approached Boyden Elementary School art teacher Marcia Marinelli about having her students create snowflakes themselves.

Two-Alarm Fire Causes Severe Damage to Stoughton Home Monday Night

A two-alarm fire caused severe damage to a single family home in Stoughton Monday night.

The Stoughton Fire Department responded to a report of a bedroom fire at 19 Churchill Ave. at 6:24 p.m. Jan. 7. The fire started in a first floor bedroom in the front of the home and spread to both levels.

There was extensive damage to the home, but there were no injuries to any of the home’s occupants or first responders on scene.

Patriot Place Adds High-End Japanese Hibachi Steakhouse to Restaurant Mix

Patriot Place continued its recent boom in business by adding a high-end Japanese hibachi steakhouse to its restaurant mix.

Saga Hibachi Steakhouse & Sushi Bar is coming to Foxborough, expected to open this summer after the town’s Board of Selectmen unanimously approved all licenses and applications at Tuesday’s meeting.

The restaurant will be located at 295 Patriot Pl., next to Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill, across from Red Robin and near the Renaissance Hotel. The 7,857 sq ft. vacant space will feature a dining room, lounge bar, sushi bar, kitchen and restrooms. There will also be a 662 sq ft. outdoor patio area that seats 32.

Inside, the hibachi dining room will seat 95, the dining area 77 and the lounge bar 18. The premises holds a max capacity of 275 persons. Renovations and construction of the restaurant space is expected to cost just over $1 million, according to the restaurant’s application.

Saga’s owner, Xing (Steven) Lin, owns similar restaurants in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The Patriot Place location will be the first in Massachusetts.
