Soft Opening Today for Attleboro Dog Park

Let your dog run free at the new park.

The new Attleboro Dog Park on Pond Street North across the street from the animal shelter is ready for dogs today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will not be a grand opening with a ribbon cutting and political speeches; that will take place when it's warmer in April. It will be a soft opening with dogs having fun, free coffee (for the humans) and a few raffles for gift baskets and gift cards to local businesses.

"I have had so many emails asking over and over when the park will be open, so we decided that we will open it up now to the public so it can be used," wrote Attleboro Dog Park Committee co-Chair Carol Ferraro in an email to Attleboro Patch.

Dogs must be licensed and committee members will be asking for license tag numbers.

This will also be an opportunity for dog park monitors to get some hands-on training. Anyone who is comfortable with dogs and people can become a monitor. All they have to do is read and familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations, which can be found in the attached document.

Monitor sign-up forms can be found at www.attleborodogpark.com. Also on the website, you can find information on how to buy advertising space on the park fence.

Thanks Jonathan for a wonderful piece. I hope that many come out today to see and enjoy the dog park. We are very excited to be able to do this as a trial run to the real opening in the spring. When we really open in the spring it will also look very different than it does today. Still a work in progress and probably always will be. We want to have the cleanest and safest dog park in the area and we will work very hard to make it so.

By 12:00 or so people who had slept in made it to the dog park (opened at 11). I heard there were 40 people with dogs at one time. What a joy to see the dogs run free off leash!! This is going to bring people together, as well as dogs together. It will mix people from single family homes with those from apartments--a good equalizer!! (Because the dogs don't care!!) It will mix generations, children, adults, the elderly. What a great thing that is for children to see adults talking and relaxing and sharing their love of dogs. This is a terrific asset for the whole City!! Thank you to all who worked so hard for this!! A great example of what we can do together!!

How are people to know what is going on when the facebook website for the park does not accept new requests?
Roberta Collins February 22, 2013 at 12:28 PM
Tori Ann, you are probably going to an old FB page. The one that accepts new requests is: https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/AttleboroDogPark/. You can always check the website: www.attleborodogpark.com for updates or to sign up and be a monitor.
