The Blue Hills Ski Area is Gearing Up for Ski Season

The Blue Hills Ski Area over on Big Blue is gearing up for ski season. If you've been hiking on Big Blue lately you may have noticed the work that's being done to the ski chalet, all the snow machines are lined up at the bottom of the ski trail ready to be put into place up and down the moutain and the tall grass that covered the trails has been sheared to the ground.

The instructors at Blue Hills Snowsports Learning Center are dediciated professionals who love to ski and snowboard and will share their knowledge of the sport with you as well as make it fun. They have an extensive lesson program for old and young including:

Group lessons start at age 7 and run for one hour.

M - W 1:oo p.m., 3:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday 10:00 a.m., 12 noon, 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Saturday 10:oo a.m., 12 noon, 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., Sunday 10:00 a.m., 12 noon and 2:00 p.m.

Private lessons are for ages 4 and up and also run for one hour.

M - W 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., Saturday 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., Sunday 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Mountain Munchkins are for ages 4 - 6 and the lessons run for 1.5 hours. This program is restricted to the beginner area. Children will learn about the equipment and how to get their boots and skis on and off. Call ahead for availability for this program as it fills up quickly. Call (781) 828 - 5070.

During the Winter and February School Vacation weeks Blue Hills offers a five day skiing/snowboarding vacation camp for ages 7 - 15 years old. Participants ski or ride with a Blue Hills Instructor from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. each day with free unsupervised skiing and riding one hour before and one hour after the program. The December Vacation Camp runs from December 26 - 30. The February Vacation Camp runs from February 18 - 22. Fees for these camps vary depending on equipment rentals or camp fee only.

There are two events in the works for the 2012 -2013 season. A slopestyle competition sponsored by Ski8 Stop and Radio 92.9 and an old school competition with no poles, just snow. Check the website for event details.
