Canton Artist and Photographer Captures Stories Through Her Work

Canton resident uses her lens and paint brush to bring the community to life.

Cristina Hajosy is a photographer, an artist and a teacher. But those words do not fully capture the range of her art, the depth of her teaching, the essence of her photography–or how they all work together.

Hajosy has been photographing weddings, babies, families and events and creating memories and stories for her clients through her photographs for 18 years. She has captured over 680 weddings. In her photography for weddings and events, the trained eye of a photojournalist works closely with her artistic sense, resulting in, as her website describes, “Simply moments in time made timeless.”

A Canton resident for 14 years, Hajosy discovered the community when looking for a combination of convenience and space.  “I grew up on a farm in Georgia, and I wanted a backyard garden,” she said, “We were looking for an interesting house, quiet, and space. We found it in Canton. It felt like I was back to my roots.”

As an artist, Hajosy uses photography and mixed media and is largely focused on body image and modern perceptions of the “body beautiful.”

She is an artist in residence with the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton and with the Attleboro Arts Museum in Attleboro. Through grants from both organizations, she has taught students from as young as six-years-old to seniors suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Some of the courses she teaches are Photography-Based Mixed Media, Basic Artist’s Bookmaking, Photography from Beginning to Advanced and Visual Journals, offered in schools, nursing homes and at the museums.

“I am grounded in photography," she said. "But I love teaching."
