Canton Patch: What inspires you as an artist Laura?

Laura Zanghetti: I'd have to say it changes all the time, I'm not happy painting the same subjects like some artists are. I need variation in my subjects and in the style in which I paint them. If you were to look at my work from the past 10 years you'd see more beach and boating scenes than anything else, but recently I have begun to move away from that and I am drawn to more figurative painting. I love working on what I call my 'Umbrella Ladies'. The technique has a lot of texture and is a bit abstract in some ways . . . very different from my earlier work.

Canton Patch: When did you become interested in painting and creating?

Laura Zanghetti: I've been painting and drawing since I was a child drawing with chalk on the streets in Dorchester. I am not formally educated, but guided by an extensive collection of books and magazines. I've been painting full time at my home studio in Walpole for the past 10 years. I am influenced by the modern day masters such as Richard Schmid, Andre Kohn and Malcome Liepke. Painting is a constant learning and growing experience. As an artist the
need to paint is as strong as the need to breathe.
