Canton Patch Business Q&A: Hub City Cycle and Fitness

A new fitness facility has opened up in Canton - Hub City Cycle and Training located on Neponset Street.

Canton Patch interviewed Hub City to find out what made them different from a regular gym.

Canton Patch: What exactly is Hub City Cycle & Training?

Hub City: Hub City is a state of the art indoor cycling studio that is dedicated to giving all fitness levels the ultimate workout experience. We have Stadium style seating, Personal Performance Tracking Software, the Newest Keiser M3+ indoor cycles, and Online class and bike reservation. Hub City also has a 2,000 square foot functional training studio with turf which is ideal for intense, highly effective, results oriented group training programs for all ages and fitness levels.

CP: What can you tell us about the Keiser M3+ indoor cycles?

HC: The Keiser M3+ indoor cycles is the result of more than a decade of research and manufacturing experience. The hallmark of Keiser is its durability, incredibly smooth ride and the ability to balance true performance while focusing on power output (watts). Power is the component that sets performance equipment apart from ordinary fitness equipment. Power is of value to all people of all ages and all fitness levels.  It’s no longer about heart rate it’s about how much power is being generated by you the rider. Two brand new features that Keiser recently added is the handlebars are now adjustable fore/aft as well as up/down and has also an upgraded console with a back-lit display.

CP: How does the personal performance tracking software work?

HC: We have networked wireless bikes so that both individual and team performance can be displayed to the whole class on plasma TV. With these real time ride statistics we are able to provide everyone of all fitness levels with customized goal based instruction and each rider can track their performance history online. This smart studio system can also be used to run competition style training which is valuable to outdoor cycle enthusiasts and triathletes. This tool significantly increases motivation and participation.

CP: What are the benefits of indoor cycling?

HC: The benefits of indoor cycling, both physical and mental, can be enjoyed by almost anyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Perhaps this is why indoor cycling workouts were the most significant new fitness trend of the 1990s, and continue to gain in popularity today. And, while the many benefits may be enough to convince you to try this form of exercise, another equally enticing quality of indoor cycling is that it’s fun. Participants report that time spent during indoor cycling workouts seem to fly by, as opposed to other forms of cardio, and that they gain a real sense of accomplishment after completing a “ride.”  Physical benefits of indoor cycling include weight loss, increased energy levels, stronger heart and lungs, decreased risk for heart diseases, increased bone density, better sleep, improved cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

CP: What would you say to encourage people to try out a cycle class?

HC: There are five great reasons to try an indoor cycling class.


  1. Motivating Workout: It’s nothing like cycling on the stationary bike all by your lonesome in your basement. One of the best benefits of indoor cycling is that each class is led by a certified instructor who keeps you motivated. 
  2. Burn Tons of Calories: Indoor cycling is your new best friend. Even with just a moderate amount of effort, you can burn around 700-800 calories in a 45-minute class, and our classes are 60 minutes.
  3. Work Your Core: Indoor cycling is a great total body workout. The instructor will lead you through different spin routines to keep things interesting while toning and strengthening a variety of muscles. Indoor cycling also offers an intensive workout for your body’s core, which you have to keep tight and firm while pedaling vigorously with your leg muscles. 
  4. Adjust Your Resistance: A huge benefit of Indoor cycling is that anyone can do it. It is considered a low-impact exercise because it doesn’t put pressure on your joints the way aerobics, running and other high-impact programs can. You are in control of how fast you go and how much resistance you use. Even if you start out strong, you can modify as needed throughout your workout if you are recovering from an injury and need to be careful not to overextend yourself.

HC: We are holding a spinathon on Sunday, Nov. 18 to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Beginning at 9 a.m., there are two, one-hour adult rides and then at 11 a.m. there are two half hour kids rides. All paid adult riders will receive a commemorative tee shirt and all paid kid riders will receive a commemorative rubber bracelet.
