Great Escape: Maple Sugar Days at Blue Hills Reservation

Learn and watch how real maple syrup is made right at Brookwood Farm on Blue Hills Reservation.

Each week Canton Patch will be bringing you an idea for you to enjoy some much needed time away from it all. Whether  you've been burning the midnight oil at your day job or shuttling your kids around to various events or sports practices, we know you need an escape every once in a while too. Great Escape gives you a different idea each week to help you make the best of your free time by finding local events, activities, and hotspots for dining and entertainment right in your neighborhood.

Bring a friend, a spouse or the whole family to the annual event at on Blue Hills Reservation next weekend. 

You will learn how to pick out a sugar maple tree, watch sap drip from the trees into buckets and enjoy the fragrant smells of wood burning fires as the sap bubbles and boils.

Trails near the Trailside Museum will be open and you may run into a cast of costumed characters from Native Americans to Yankee farmers depicting how maple sugaring methods have developed through the years to modern day technology.

The day would not be complete without sampling delicious real maple syrup and taking a ride on the Maple Express Trolley.

Plan your escape for next weekend as the annual Maple Sugar Days will only take place on March 12 and 13 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. each day.  Admission is $6 per person and children under two are free. The admission fee benefits the Trailside Museum.
