Shop Local in Canton This Holiday Season

Shop local on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.

Several have opened up in Canton with many unique products and services that can make great holiday gifts this year. There are also many local businesses that have been open for years and have fresh new products to offer, not only for gifts, but for entertaining as well.

“Small Business Saturday”, an event sponsored by American Express, is Saturday, November 26. The company has a great offer for people who will be shopping in small businesses the Saturday of . They will be offering shoppers a onetime $25.00 dollar statement credit when they use their cards at a small business. You can be part of this event if you shop local in Canton this holiday season.

Shopping local is the best way to encourage and support economic growth in your town. It helps the town thrive and keeps your hard earned money circulating locally. Several local shops are selling items that have been made by local artists. , located at 3 Rockland Street, is one of the shops that recently opened. Not only does Cristina make her jewelry designs in her studio/shop, she also carries handmade goods made by other Canton and
Massachusetts artists, including knitwear by Jessica Burko of Reclaimed to You, photographs and cards by Kerry Hawkins Photography, and pottery by Karen Mahoney of City by the Sea Ceramics.

Many of these artists are members of a nonprofit arts organization called
Boston Handmade, which is a group dedicated to fine craft and to assisting local residents to make their living as artists.

“Handmade gifts by local artists are a unique and personal gift people
will really enjoy receiving," Hurley said. "I have always enjoyed making gifts for friends and family, and I really enjoy being able to do the same for the people who come into my shop. Even before I owned my shop, I tried to shop in Canton for gifts and decorations from the small businesses that are so close to home.”

One place great for decorating for your holiday occasions is , located at 515 Washington Street. Not only do they make beautiful floral arrangements for all occasions, they also have a lovely variety of dish gardens and house plants. , a consignment business at the same location, offers new, gently used and unusual home décor, furniture and china.

Joan Marie Driscoll, the owner at Floral Scents, said, “It’s easy to pick up a quick bouquet from the supermarket, but it’s not the same as getting a quality
custom made, hand-tied floral arrangement that will last longer than a
few days."

"We are constantly asked 'Where do you get your flowers?' and 'Why do they last so long?' Floral Scents pride themselves on delivering quality custom floral arrangements every time," Driscoll said.

If you are in the market for finding something for the little ones, or custom printing for cards, invitations, napkins or other paper goods, you can find both in one stop at located at 512 Washington Street. Owned by three local residents, this cute little gift shop has many products to offer, for people of all ages. They offer toys, clothing, candles, aromatherapy products, and much more. The printing is even done in house by one of the owners, Lori Cohen.

You can even find someone local to cook for your special holiday dinner or cocktail party. Canton resident Laura MacDougall owns Home Plate Advantage, at www.HomePlateAdv.com. She is a personal chef, who will come to your home and cook for you right in your own kitchen. She can make you anything from comfort food to gourmet food, and can cater to your dietary needs if necessary.

Canton has a great deal to offer for holiday shopping and entertaining. You can find so much very close to home for all of your needs, and by shopping in Canton you will be supporting your neighbors and their local small businesses. Take advantage of all the wonderful products and services offered close to home by shopping in Canton. You will get great quality products and great customer service. Many of the products being offered can also be customized to your needs, and you won’t find that special service in a big mall or chain store.

In addition to all of these great shops opening up, many physical improvements have been made to the streets and sidewalks of Canton Center in the past few years. There’s lots of free street parking, and there are many great old and new restaurants to try. Take the time this year to check out all the great businesses right outside your front door and just down the street, and don’t forget to take
