Tips to Recover From a Super Bowl Hangover

One too many beers or wings on Super Bowl Sunday? Check out the tips below from Shaws.

Suffering from too much -night food and drinks? registered dietitian Jennifer Shea has put together some tips and tricks that will have you feeling better in no time. That is, unless your team was defeated.

  • Agua Is Key: Replenish and rehydrate with water. Alcohol and salty food dehydrates the body, so refueling with water is always key. Add citrus slices to your water to rejuvenate and refresh. Bored of water? Drink peppermint tea. It’s caffeine free and will help soothe and calm your stomach.
  • Don’t Leave Those Electrolytes Hanging: When you drink alcohol, you lose water and electrolytes. These vitamins, minerals and salt help to keep your body functioning properly. To fix it, drink a low-calorie sports drink. Or try a Virgin Bloody Mary – made with low-sodium tomato juice, a dash of hot sauce, a dash of Worcestershire sauce, a dash of pepper and the juice of half a lime. Spicy foods can help distract you from a hangover by diverting your mind to your taste buds – but only go hot if your stomach can handle it. If not, stick with bland food and drink.
  • Fill Up On Food: To curve the belly-ache and hunger pains, try filling-up on protein, whole grain carbs and healthy fats. Try this Breakfast Burrito to fuel the body and mind well.
  • Remember The Fruit: Mangos are packed with Vitamin A and Vitamin C – both of which are important for skin health to help you look refreshed. Mangos are also great to help calm an upset stomach. Try a Mango Smoothie– complete with protein, healthy carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals – to get you back on track.
  • Sweat Out The Toxins - Get a low-key workout in and sweat. Go for a walk outside. The fresh air will work wonders for your mind, body and spirit. Plus you’ll burn off some of the pizza and chicken wing calories from last night.
