Canton Nonprofit Facilitates Live Organ Donations

Canton non-profit company pairs live organ donors with patients needing a transplant.

We are all aware of the need for , whether through a personal friend or family member awaiting a new kidney or other organ, or perhaps through stories that we read on the news. The majority of organ donation comes through people who have died, perhaps in an accident, and whose families agree to donate their organs so that someone else may have the gift of life. The waiting list is long.

We have all probably heard the stories of live organ donations as well. Usually that is where a sibling or other family member donates an extra kidney or other organ to another family member.

However there is a company that was formed in Canton that increases the opportunities for live organ donations across the country. After a survey revealed that 25% of people would be willing to do a live organ donation for a complete stranger, a Canton resident formed MatchingDonors.com.  Supported by donations and advertising, MatchingDonors.com is a registered 501(3)(c) non-profit organization.

' purpose is to facilitate the match and increase awareness of live organ donation. Both patients and potential donors can sign up through the website and from there the process starts. There are technical, medical and administrative staff that help facilitate the process. Once a match is found, the same protocol is followed as with any other live organ donation.

They are finding that there are thousands of altruistic and caring people out there willing to make a live organ donation to save someone else's life. It is all made possible by one little non-profit based here in Canton.
