Galvin Middle School 8th Graders Perform at State House

Galvin 8th Grade Chorus performs at the Massachusetts State House.

The Eighth Grade chorus performed today at the Massachusetts State House.  I took a break from my busy day (busy week, busy month!) today to go in to Boston to watch them perform.

My daughter is in the 8th grade chorus and when I heard they were going to be performing there I thought it was a great opportunity for them.  I wanted to see them yet as the day approached all I could think about was how busy I was. Luckily, I decided to go anyway!

They performed on the Grand Staircase on the second floor at the  this morning.  State (who, yes IS related to the Galvin for whom the middle school is named) had arranged for their performance and was on hand to watch as well.

They performed some of the same songs they had sung at their  yet it felt like a new performance to me.  The accoustics in the historic State House building allowed their voices to be heard from the first floor all the way up to the fourth floor.  It sounded fantastic.

All of the songs were wonderful but my favorites were the song "Africa" and their closing number "Song for Unsung Heros" which is a piece dedicated to veterans and first responders.

Kudos to the students of the Galvin Middle School 8th Grade Chorus and of course, their dedicated chorus teacher, Mr. John Russell, and all of the of the Canton Public Schools.

Upon completion of the concert, students were treated to a of the State House by Rep. Galvin and even got to visit the House Chamber.

If you want to see the 8th Grade Chorus for yourself, they will be performing this Sunday at
