You May Not Find the Perfect House, But You May Find the Perfect Home

The difference between a house and a home.

Most home buyers are limited by the amount of money they can spend. When you add that into the type of home they want, the size of home and the community in which they want to live, there are certainly limits. At that point, buyers need to make priorities–is it the that is most important? Maybe the size of the house? Or is it the condition of the home that is important?

Figuring out what is most important to you will be the key to a successful home search.

Even in this market, in communities like Canton, there may be many  but there are not many homes that meet all the criteria. Some are in great locations but need a lot of work or are priced high. Some are in great condition but are small. Others may have a really nice price tag but location, size or condition–or maybe all three–are not what a buyer may want.  In other communities, you might get price, size and condition but not the community you initially wanted. What is most important to you?

Nothing is perfect, especially when working within a budget. However, that does not mean that it cannot be the perfect home for you. My house, for example, may not be a perfect house. We have three kids and a three bedroom house. Four bedrooms would be perfect. We have two full bathrooms but no master bath–a master bathroom would make it perfect. Our bedrooms are a little on the small size–larger bedrooms would be perfect. There is a one-car attached garage–a two car garage would be perfect. You get the idea.

On the other hand, it is the perfect home for us. We live in a nice safe town, near good schools and on a side street. There is enough room in the house for the five of us to live, work and play. More importantly, we have many memories in this house, have raised a family and have put down roots in the community. This house has provided us shelter through many storms. We plan to live here for quite a while longer. There is a difference between a house and a home.

My point? If you are looking for the perfect house, you may be looking forever and the price may never be right. If you are looking for the perfect home, then focus on what your main priorities are and you might find that the perfect home is there waiting for you.
