This Canton High basketball player is a standout.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Joe McCabe

NAME OF TEAM: Canton High Schooll Team

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: “This is my first year coaching this team and Joe has been a great person and leader and very helpful to me and his teammates. He is always working longer and harder than everyone and sets the tone every day. When Joe speaks everyone listens and his leadership is displayed both on and off the court. His excellence extends into the classroom and in his community service work. Joe is resilient and has a winning attitude and is a problem-solver. Joe is a natural born leader, plays with high intensity and he will be the one to change the culture around here for boys basketball and make this program be back on top of the Hockomock League with even more fan and town support.” -CANTON HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL COACH RYAN GORDY-

WHY IS HE THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK?: Joe is a 6’1” senior captain and starting shooting guard for the Canton High School Boys Basketball team. He is averaging 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game and has helped Canton to a 4-2 start this season.

FAVORITE CAREER ATHLETIC MOMENT: Winning the Metro Basketball championship as an eighth grader and leading his team to the title.

STATISTICS: Joe has been a member of the Canton Boys Varsity Basketball team all four years. 

FUTURE GOALS: To major in college and work in Sports Management and Marketing.

COLLEGE CHOICE: Joe is undecided about his college choice, but he is a high Honor Roll student and would like to play collegiate basketball.

WHATS ON THE IPOD: Joe enjoys Country Music.


OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL: Joe does community service work at the Canton Mass Hospital School for the Special Olympics. Joe also enjoys spending time with his family (mother, father, older brother and older sister) his friends and playing video games.
