Canton Resident Errick Nunnally is a 5 Napkin Burger Expert and a Winner

Canton resident wins the 5 Napkin Burger Contest with his tasty recipe.

Canton resident and graphic designer Errick Nunnally created the winning recipe for the Build the Boston Burger contest sponsored by 5 Napkin Burger in Boston.  The contest was to promote the arrival of the New York based burger restaurant on the Boston burger scene.

“I like to cook because I like to eat, and I really get a kick out of BBQ,” Nunnally explained. “I always loved hamburgers, but it wasn’t until my wife developed a craving for beef during her first pregnancy that we really started to try a lot of different burger locations, and I began working on making better burgers.”

Always on the lookout, he was reading the “where to eat “section in an airline magazine when he saw both the announcement about 5 Napkin Burger coming to Boston and the call for contest entries.

And he entered. “I actually had made a maple syrup infused burger and the flavor had worked well, so I thought about what other flavors would work with it,” Nunnally said. “The idea of a smoky, savory, sweet and piquant burger seemed likely to appeal to Bostonians.”

Nunnally's Beantown Burger incorporates real maple syrup infused beef, real baked beans, smoked Gouda cheese, tomato and relish and is served on a toasted egg roll.

“Using ingredients that are as natural and as homemade as possible is important," he said. “It tastes better, it’s better for you, and, you win!” He also added that 85% or less fat content in the beef is critical for taste and for the creation to hold together.

Nunnally has been cooking ever since an aunt gave him a cookbook, and several recipe cards, and he began with a simple Italian chicken dish. He learned that food is best when it is home cooked and healthy, using the highest quality ingredients.

His winnings, a $1000 gift certificate for 5 Napkins, will be shared with groups of friends, co-workers and family visiting the restaurant.

Nunnally and his wife still plan to search out new and interesting burger locations and try them out.
