Canton Resident Named New President of Massachusetts Health Council

Paul Mendis nominated for leadership role.

Neighborhood Health Plan (NHP) Chief Medical Officer and Canton resident Paul Mendis was recently selected as Massachusetts Health Council President. His two-year term as president began June 14.

“We are extremely proud of Dr. Mendis and his appointment as president of the Massachusetts Health Council,” said Deborah Enos, president and CEO of Neighborhood Health Plan. “This distinction demonstrates how well respected Paul is for his knowledge and commitment to improving health care in the state.”

A senior health care executive with over 25 years experience in Medicaid, Medicare and commercial managed care, Dr. Mendis has experience working with community health centers and vulnerable populations, strengthening his role on various boards, including the Aligning Forces for Quality Steering Committee, the Massachusetts Health Disparities Council, and the Massachusetts Medicaid Policy Institute.

“Through his collaboration with community health centers, policy boards, and his work at Neighborhood Health Plan, Dr. Mendis has proven himself well qualified for the position,” says Massachusetts Health Council Executive Director, Susan Servais. “With his background and experience, he will contribute significantly to the great work the Council does to improve and protect the health of the residents of the Commonwealth.”

Dr. Mendis’s dedication to eliminating health disparities distinguishes him as an influential and effective leader. In his role as CMO, Dr. Mendis helped revamp NHP’s case management program to reflect state-of-the-industry preventive health, care management and disease management. Additionally, his guidance has been integral in helping NHP to be awarded the “Excellence” accreditation rating by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and recognized as one of the top Medicaid MCOs in the country.
