Canton's Tommy MacDonald of the T.V. Series 'Rough Cut-Woodworking with Tommy Mac'

Tommy MacDonald's TV show Rough Cut is going into its third season.

Tommy MacDonald's television show "Rough Cut - Woodworking with Tommy Mac,"  is filmed on Washington Street in Canton.

On Saturday, a crew was in the process of shooting MacDonald for an upcoming feature story in Fine Woodworking Magazine.  MacDonald was illustrating how to set up a hand plane.

MacDonald discovered a passion for woodworking at Canton middle school, where shop classes and an after school program fed his growing love for the craft. Several years ago he set up a pod cast on his own website that took off and gained a large audience.

An executive producer from WGBH-TV, Laurie Donnelly, saw him and thought he would be a great addition to the WGBH line up. Donnelly thought MacDonald had a charismatic personality and was able to entertain his audience.

This summer, WGBH will be taping the third season of a series that won an Emmy Award nomination for its first season. It will be shown nationally this October. MacDonald likes to take his show on the road and will be traveling across the country visiting other wood workers.
