Gridley School Could Return, but Closed this Year

Canton’s Gridley School preschool program recently closed down due to a shortage in enrollment, but if enough interest is found, selectmen said it could come back next year.

The Gridley School was run by the Canton Recreation Commission. The school ran into trouble first when four of its teachers resigned for various reasons.

The school also had enrollment issues.

Selectmen had posted a deadline in June to encourage parents to send in their deposits to continue the school, but not enough people sent in tuition deposits.

Canton held a selectmen's meeting prior to that deadline to discuss the issue.

“This board took very seriously the public comment at that meeting,” town manager William Friel said. “At this time we’re not able to offer the program.”
