Heat Wave: Expect Dangerously Hot Temperatures the Next Two Days in Canton

National Weather Service issues heat warning.

It is going to be a . Expect some hot and humid summer weather Thursday and Friday this week. The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Norfolk County starting on Thursday.

"A large are of high pressure across the central United States will gradually move east and spread very hot and very humid air into our region beginning on Thursday," the NWS statement said.

The heat index will reach 105 degrees and the hazardous weather could cause heat illnesses for children, the elderly and those doing strenuous physical activity, the NWS warned.

"An excessive heat watch means that dangerously hot temperatures are expected," the alert stated. "The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible."

  • Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which will dehydrate you more
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure
  • Try to stay in air-conditioned environments
  • Check up on your neighbors and relatives
  • If you must work outside, take frequent breaks and rest in shaded areas
  • If you are suffering heat stroke or faintness, call 911
