Honoring the American Workers This Labor Day

How are you celebrating Labor Day, Canton?

Although many folks actually labor on Labor Day, many others take the day off to celebrate the "last weekend of summer" with family and friends. These days, Labor Day , , the start of the and the end of wearing white.

The 100-year-old federal holiday, celebrated on the first Monday of September, "is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers," the U.S. Department of Labor states. "It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country."

This national holiday, which has its roots in the old labor unions, was first celebrated in New York City in 1882, according to the U.S. DOL.
