Low Turnout in Canton at Annual Town Election

About 1.6 percent of the town's registered voters showed up at the polls Tuesday, which officials said was expected, considering all candidates ran unopposed.

With no contested races in this year's annual town election in Canton, it was no surprise to Town Clerk Tracey Kenney that only 233 ballots were cast among the town's 14,243 registered voters.

"A low turnout was expected," she said. "There were no contested races on this year's ballot, and in recent years the Town Election has produced low turnouts, with the exception of last year's election, when the question regarding the town's acceptance of the Community Preservation Act appeared on the ballot."

Voter turnout in Tuesday's election was about 1.6 percent, Kenney said. The full results of the election can be viewed as a PDF attached to this article.
