Tropical Storm Warning in Effect for Canton

The National Weather Service issued a Tropical Storm Warning for much of the Bay State, including Canton, Saturday.

Although may be down to a tropical storm when it hits Canton, the National Weather Service is warning residents of the damaging impacts the storm could have tonight and Sunday.

As Hurricane Irene continues to move north/northeast today, she will impact Southern New England Saturday night and into Sunday, according to the NWS.

"People in Southern New England should prepare for a period of strong to damaging winds, heavy rainfall and the likelihood of coastal flooding along the south coast," the NWS stated.

Tropical storm force winds and hurricane force gusts are expected late tonight into Sunday, according to the NWS.

There is possibility of five to ten inches of rain across the area, and a flood watch is in effect, the NWS stated.

Residents should expect downed trees and power lines.

The National Weather Service is advising folks to finish preparing their homes and businesses as soon as possible.
