Advice for a Good Lilfe: Students & Seniors collaborate on project; Jamboree to celebrate

On Sunday, January 26 at 3:45pm, students from Temple Kol Tikvah in Sharon and seniors from Orchard Cove in Canton, will present a collaborative multi-generational project they have been working on for several months.

The students, ages 8 to 13, explored issues surrounding the Jewish life cycle and core questions, such as “advice for a good life” with the seniors.

Since October, students from Temple Kol Tikvah in Sharon have been visiting seniors at Orchard Cove, a continuing care retirement community in Canton.  Through a series of interviews and conversations, students took on the roles of writers, artists, detectives, reporters and producers and created a variety of multi-media presentations with the seniors. The conversations started with seniors in the long term care section of Orchard Cove, but grew to involve seniors in assisted living and the independent living community.

The students each created a presentation in the form of posters, written reports, PowerPoint, Google Presentations, Glogster and Prezi. Following the Jamboree, these projects will be compiled into a full color book on Amazon.  More than 80 family, friends and community members  will celebrate the culmination of this project with the “Jamboree” at Orchard Cove on Sunday.

David Block, Director of Education at Temple Kol Tikvah, said, “We have found that the Jamboree is an ideal way to celebrate our students’ learning, learn something ourselves, and deepen our connections with one another. We are especially delighted to be celebrating this semester with our new friends at Orchard Cove.”
