The 5th Anniversary "Friends of Beth" Art Scholarship Memorial 5K Walk will take place on Sunday, April 29, 2012. The walk starts at noon at the American Legion Post #24. Registration is from 11am to 11:45am.
Beth Spence-Cann was a woman who was devoted to her church and to her family. Five years ago Cann's life was taken by an estranged boyfriend.
"My sister Beth was a devoted Mom. She did so much for her church, was a nail technician and an artist," said Cann's sister Patty Willis. "Her relationship
with her boyfriend was on again, off again because he was abusive. There were restraining orders in place but that didn't matter because he broke into my sister's home in August of 2008.
"My sister and her two youngest girls were at a concert to celebrate her middle daughter Danielle's 16th birthday. Her eldest Amanda was 17 at the time and in Florida visiting a friend. It was after midnight when he broke in. He shot my sister and both of her daughters Danielle and Brittany, 12, in the head along with the family dog.
"Miraculously the girls survived, but Beth did not. Beth's former husband broke into the house on Monday, after several phone calls, where no one answered. The girls were unconsious, but Beth was gone.
"I wanted to do something positive to celebrate her life rather than focus on the negative. The money we raise is offered to Canton High School students who are going into the arts. Every child that has applied usually gets something," said Willis.
Paid adults will recieve a T-shirt and bottled water with Koozie. An IPAD2 and Red Sox tickets will be raffled. Children under 10 are free.
