Canton Honors Veterans with American Legion Breakfast

Canton came together on to honor those who serve and have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. At the American Legion Post's, over 100 folks came out to support the vets and enjoy some pancakes, bacon and eggs.

The annual breakfast, held at Canton's American Legion Post #24, is put on by the Veterans Department and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Veterans of all ages, family members and supporters attended today's event, which raised money for the town's Veterans Fund. 

"It's a small way, but a way to honor the veterans," June Teague, the Ladies Auxiliary secretary and treasurer, said.

Teague said her father, brother, and two sons are all veterans and the event was a nice way to pay tribute to their service.

Gift baskets, donated by local shops and businesses, were raffled off at the end of the event.

Michelle Mogan, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary president, said the group assists Canton's Veterans Services Department and Director Tony Andreotti throughout the year. The women's group sends care packages to soldiers serving overseas, marches in the Memorial Day Parade and participates in a post-Thanksgiving holiday gift shop at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury, Mogan said.

"Anytime anyone needs us" the group steps up, she said. "That's what we are here for. We support the veterans of this post."
