Health & Fitness

April is National Rosacea Awareness Month.

Rosacea is a skin condition that affects approximately 14 million people in the US.  More women than men have rosacea but men tend to experience more severe symptoms. Rosacea can affect the skin on the cheeks, the nose, the skin behind the ears, and even the eyes.

There are a number of suspected causes of rosacea including genetics, environment, bacteria, and common organisms but doctors have not yet isolated a single cause of the condition.

If you notice any of these symptoms, especially when combined with very sensitive skin, raised or bumpy patches of skin, or enlarged pores, consider making an appointment with your dermatologist to see if you have rosacea. Treatment options are available to keep this condition under control.
