Canton Youth Commission

Wednesday evening, May 11, 2011 marked the first official meeting of the . The Youth Commission meetings are open to the public. Discussions at this meeting surrounded creating a mission statement, possible events, funding and programs.  The commission was in agreement that its primary goal is to offer supportive programs and an opportunity for all youth to establish and maintain connectivity to the community.  The target age group will be grades 6-12. 

Subcommittees were formed to aide with the initial steps needed to form a substantial and effective commission. The committees consist of financing, events/programs, recruiting and mission. Through discussion during the meeting, the main hurdles identified in developing and implementing a Youth Commission was the absence of space, funding and transportation. 

Members of the community are encouraged to join the commission by addressing a letter of request to the Board of Selectmen. There may be 21 official members and space remains available. Any member of the community is welcome to attend meetings and participate in discussions without official membership.

The following positions were appointed: Chair–Jeremy Comeau; Vice-Chair–Todd Weaver; Clerk–Dorice Khoury.  The dates for the next four meetings are June 21, July 19, August 16 and September 20. The June meeting will be held at the .
