Canton Obituary: Mary Venckus, 98

Services for the former Canton resident were held early this week.

Mary M. Venckus (Ruane), 98, of Stoughton, formerly of Canton passed away on Friday, Oct. 12, at Copley at Stoughton after a brief illness, according to CurrentObituary.com.

Born and raised in Canton, Venckus graduated from St. John’s School in Canton, Class of 1931. She worked as a Sales Clerk for Jordan Marsh in Braintree for many years before retiring in 1988. She lived most of her life in Canton, where she was a member of the Canton Catholic Women’s Club and enjoyed spending time at the Canton Senior Center. She has lived in Stoughton for the last 16 years.

Beloved wife of the late John E. Mother of Mary Jo Everett and her husband Peter of Vermont and Judith A. O’Connell and her husband Paul of Stoughton. Sister of Bernadette Merchant of Canton and the late Julia Beck, Lillian Flynn, Joseph, John & Francis Ruane. Grandmother of Jennifer Barucci of Stoughton, Peter Everett of Vermont, Heather McGinley of Stoughton and Brian O’Connell of Burlington. Also survived by five great grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home in Canton on Monday from 4-8 p.m. A funeral mass was later held at St. John the Evangelist Church on Tuesday morning at 10:30. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton.
