PUT A FREEZE ON WINTER FIRES

The United State Fire Administration (USFA) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) are working together to remind everyone that home fires are more prevalent in winter than in any other season, due in part to an increase in cooking and heating fires. Holiday decorations and winter storms that can interrupt electrical service and cause people to turn to alternative heating sources also contribute to the increased fire risk.

Kirley Masonry & Stove Emporium in Mansfield, MA (www.kirleymasonry.com) would like to join the USFA and NFPA in sharing fire safety tips this winter, especially as you deck the halls in your home. A heat source that is too close to the Christmas tree causes 1 in every 6 fires. Make sure your tree is at least 3 feet away from heat sources, including fireplaces, coal/wood/pellet stoves, radiators, space heaters, candles, and heat vents. Trees should be removed after Christmas or when it's dry.

Check out this infographic from NFPA for other excellent fire safety tips.
