The truth hurts and it's the same old comeback. I bet you don't say that when your house is on fire. They put their lives on the line, please. It's a job choice, no one forced them into service. 50K per yr times 25yrs plus benefits is over a million bucks. If my home is on fire, let it burn, that is why I have insurance. Stop thinking firefighters are heros just because. This is what they are! Why are they firefighters now? Should we call cops crimefighters. Is the garbage man a trashfighter?

Wow Paul...you truly are ignorant. What about all the elderly people who call daily because they have no one else to call...they call the fd for help. Someone's water heater broke and is spilling water all in thier home, fd goes. Your mother has a massive stroke, fd goes. The list goes on. Firefighting is a small portion of thier job. Maybe some day you'll be pinned in a car and let's see how fast you'll say they aren't needed.

You go because it's your job and you are very well paid. You are not an automatic hero because of your job choice. Many people are tired of paying your way when they are out of work and have no say in how many fireheros are really needed. Taxpayers pay so much for you guys, we don't expect to see any dui or taking/selling dope. All you fireheros act like we would all be lost without you. Every nurse, doctor, mom, boyscout and citizen can be a first responder, don't think you are the only ones that can save a life. Get off your HIGH horse!

Paul.....not a firefighter. I'm a MD. So I deserve a high horse. I worked hard for it

It's great that you worked hard and now you can afford to pay for all services without question. In these times many can not afford to pay every bill and as you know the first bill that goes unpaid is health insurance. If it were up to me I would cut the firehouse 50% and add a few more paramedics. Sorry for any spelling errors my education was only 12 yrs of Massachusetts public schooling. Go Patriots!
