Canton Business Helping Stoughton Family Impacted by Fire, Seeking Donations

Draper Knitting in Canton hopes to collect donations for the Powers family, whose Central Street home in Stoughton was severely damaged in a fire on Tuesday.

A Canton business is hoping to help the Powers family, whose Central Street home in Stoughton was seriously damaged in a Tuesday afternoon.

, located at 28 Draper Lane in Canton, will be accepting donations between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and “will be sure these donations go directly to the Powers Family,” Kristin Draper of Draper Knitting wrote in an email to Patch.

“If people would like to donate to the Powers family in the form of gift cards to grocery stores or Walmart/Target, we will be happily accepting donations,” Draper wrote in an email.

The Powers’ are longtime residents of Stoughton. Three generations of the family were impacted by the fire.

“Dave Powers was a long time employee of Draper Felt Company/Tamfelt in Canton and now his son Ryan Powers works here at Draper Knitting,” Draper wrote in an email. “They have lost everything.”

People can also drop off donations at the in Stoughton. One of the Powers family members works there.  

Stoughton Police and Fire, and fire departments from nearly ten other towns, responded to a three-alarm fire at 1832 Central Street before 1 p.m. on Tuesday. No injuries were reported, but there was extensive damage to the second and third floors of the home, and the Powers family in the meantime has been displaced.
