Police responded to the gas station shortly after midnight on Friday, after receiving a report from a clerk at the business.

"Upon the officers arrival, a visibly shaken clerk reported that a light skin or white male party had entered the store wearing a red shirt, shorts, dark-colored baseball cap and a mask," Canton Dep. Police Chief Helena Findlen said in a statement.

Santiago allegedly had a gun and demanded the clerk to "give him the money," according to Canton Police. The clerk then tried to explain that he had no access to the money, after which the suspect walked around the counter and allegedly confronted the clerk with a gun demanding the money. A struggle ensued, and the clerk was able to chase the suspect out of the store.

The clerk sustained a minor injury in the struggle, and the suspect did not take money or other items from the store, police said.

Police investigation and leads from witnesses and the store's video surveillance system helped officers to identify and arrest the suspect within hours of the incident.
