Canton Police Department Helping Residents Dispose of Old Medications

The Canton Police Department is now a permanent drop-off for expired medications.

The Canton Police Department, working in partnership with the District Attorney’s Office-under the leadership of , as well as the Department of Mental Health, has been selected as a site for placement of a permanent drug collection container. No longer will residents have to wait for a scheduled drug collection event to drop off their expired or unused medications. Residents can now come into the police station at any time to drop off their medications.

According to Lt. Patty Sherrill, certain restrictions apply to what can and can’t be dropped off. 

“We do not take needles of any kind," Sherrill said. "In addition, we do not accept inhalers, thermometers or medical waste of any type including Bio-hazardous materials. We will accept expired or unwanted prescriptions and medicine (non-narcotics and narcotics), vitamins and herbals, veterinary medications and over the counter medicines.”
