Canton Police Identify Victim in Fatal Crash

Police release the name of the 65-year-old Canton woman killed in a head-on car crash on Sunday.

Canton Police released the name of the victim in Sunday’s fatal head-on crash on Walpole Street on Sunday evening.

Lt. Helena Findlen said Mary Morningstar, 65, of Canton was killed while driving her Chevy Trailblazer on Walpole Street.

Based on preliminary information, police believe Morningstar’s vehicle was struck head-on by a Chevy Corvette that crossed the center line.

Police did not comment on whether or not Morningstar was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash because the accident is still being investigated by Canton Police and the State Police Reconstruction team.

Charges have been filed against Steven R. Walsh, 19, of Walpole, the driver of the corvette, by the court complaint process.

Findlen said Walsh suffered serious but non-life treating injuries in the crash.  Walsh and his male passenger were each transported to a Boston area hospital by helicopter.

Debris from the vehicles still remain at the scene of the crash near the intersection of Walpole Street and Everendon Road, just past the Brookmeadow Country Club entrace.  There is also sand at the scene which is commonly used to cover up motor oil.

Despite the road being windy and curvy with blind corners, the area of the crash scene is a flat, lengthy straight-away section of Walpole Street.
