Canton Police Tweeting Away

The Canton Police Department is using Twitter to communicate with residents.

Canton residents may see members of the patrolling the streets, responding to emergency calls, helping citizens–or tweeting. That's right. Your local law enforcement members are now on Twitter.

CPD has been tweeting over the last several months in hopes of reaching the community through an additional venue–social media. Tech-savvy folks can now follow the Canton Police Department on Twitter. The CPD's handle is @CantonMAPolice.

Expect to get daily updates from the CPD, including information on speed limits, safe driving tips, public safety announcements and more, according to Canton Police Lt. Thomas Keleher.

"Right now we are using it for traffic issues, road closings and upcoming events that might impact drivers," Keleher said. 

Keleher, who manages the department's account, tweets tips to help residents in Canton. Some past tweets include road closings, reminders of the fine for passing a school bus and information on a string of break-ins.

Through Twitter, the CPD hopes "to reach as many residents as possible" and to keep Canton residents as updated and informed as possible, the lieutenant said.
