Estranged Boyfriend Allegedly Commits Home Invasion, Arrested in Canton

An armed James Condon, 37, allegedly forced his way into the home of his former girlfriend and assaulted her Tuesday morning before being arrested in Canton.

A former Milton resident was arrested Tuesday after using a handgun to force his way into the Blue Hill River Road home he once shared with his estranged girlfriend and their two daughters.

James Condon, who currently lives in New Bedford, was arrested by team of tactical officers at Ponkapoag Golf Course in Canton. Condon, 37, is facing charges of Armed Assault in a Dwelling, unlawful possession of a Firearm, Home Invasion, Threats to Commit a Crime,  Firearm Serial number Defacement, Witness Intimidation and Assault and Battery.

Condon, who according to a statement from Milton Police Chief Richard Wells Jr. had been separated from his girlfriend and children for several months, made threats to the woman on Monday night.

Tuesday morning, as the former girlfriend prepared to take the children to school, Condon forced his way into the home, assaulting her repeatedly.

"Somehow the victim managed to convince [Condon] to allow her to drive the children to their schools," Wells said in the statement. "It was at one of the schools that a staffer observed  injuries to the victims face and notified Milton Police."

The suspect reportedly contacted Pierce Middle School looking for one of his daughters while attempting to communicate via text with the victim. Milton Police secured both children at that time.

Canton, Milton and State Police located Condon at the Canton golf course. While the arrest was made, Rte. 138 was momentarily shut down, according to Wells.

Condon was arrested without incident. He was in possession of a "loaded, high capacity automatic pistol."

He is being held in Milton on $100,000 cash bail. He faced arraignment in Quincy District Court Wednesday.
