Firefighters Respond to Blaze at Mass Hospital School

A school employee had gone to investigate the access panel by climbing a ladder. The employee "received second degree burns to his arms when he opened an access panel and the fire exited the duct, knocking him off the ladder he was on, from about 12 feet," Doody said. "He also sustained a broken ankle from the fall."

It took Canton firefighters three hours to find the "hidden fire, access it and extinguish it," according to the fire chief.

Crews had to create two holes to get to the blaze. Six Canton firefighters responded to the scene and did not suffer any injuries, according to Doody.

The fire caused about $20,000 in damages to the school's building, he noted.
