JFK School in Canton Responds to Bus Incident

Parents can expect Canton Police to be on school grounds tomorrow after today's incident.

will be at the in Canton tomorrow after an incident today on a school bus involving an air-soft bead-gun.

Interim Principal released a statement tonight about the incident on school bus E on the afternoon ride home. “During the ride home, a student was found with an air-soft bead gun and two children riding on the bus were hit by beads, but fortunately their injuries are minor,” Chamberlain stated. "The bus driver immediately pulled over, intervened, and contacted the police.”

Tomorrow, parents can expect Canton Police to be on school grounds.

“Safety is our first concern, and we are taking this incident very seriously,” the interim principal stated. “In addressing those responsible for this incident, we are following school policy and state law.”

Chamberlain said today’s incident was “isolated” but in order to “reassure parents, students and staff” police will be at the school Friday.

The school is also holding a student assembly “aimed at reassuring students regarding their safety,” the interim principal stated. Canton Police, the interim principal and Assistant Principal Meredith Carey will be speaking at the assembly.

“The police will work with us proactively to educate the students about the dangers of this type of behavior,” Chamberlain stated.

She reiterated to parents that Canton schools and buses are safe. “Violations of our safety expectations are extremely rare," Chamberlain stated, "and the seriousness of this situation warrants careful scrutiny so that we can help ensure this does not happen again."
